NEW LARGE SCALE PAINTINGS

Cedric has recently completed three 8-foot by 15-foot paintings, moving the 'FIGURE CONSTRUCTS' aesthetic forward considerably. Wentworth brushed, dripped and threw various paints onto large canvases that were spread out on the floor of his warehouse. The Crocker Art Museum will be visiting Cedric's studio in the coming weeks to determine whether the works will be suitable for their collection.

NEW LARGE SCALE STEEL AND BRONZE SCULPTURES

Cedric has recently put the finishing touches on two major steel and bronze sculptures titled Gilgamesh and Saguaro. Gilgamesh was created by splitting a large steel I-beam down the middle and then mounting it to a steel base plate. Saguaro gets its name from its composition, the assemblage of beams resembling a large saguaro cactus. Both sculptures feature Wentworth's signature use of figurative bronzes mounted horizontally against the I-beam flanges. Several museums are interested in acquiring the works.

WOMAN OF MEMNON ACQUIRED BY CROCKER ART MUSEUM

Wentworth's pit-fired ceramic, Woman of Memnon, is now a permanent addition to the Crocker Art Museum, in Sacramento, California. Pit-firing is a process of adding a rich surface coloration to a ceramic piece. Stains and glazes full of copper and iron are painted onto the ceramic figure and then layers of mineral-rich vegetable matter are packed onto the piece using copper wire. The ceramic pieces are fired overnight in a large covered pit filled with wood and saw-dust. The rich and unpredictable coloration comes from the uneven areas of heat and oxygen within the pit.
